Editor| I love the concept. It is something that will super work here in India.
The design elements are great, extra TVs, love the hand-seat. The space is super functional. Look forward to some entrepreneur doing something similar here.
If you know of anything that is similar please let me know.

TRENDS | Deluxe Designer Hotels

"In the last five or 10 years, fashion designers have begun to understand that the best way they can increase business is by recreating themselves as lifestyles brands," says Lucian James, founder of Paris-based brand consultancy Agenda.
Edinburgh, Scotland, in early 2009, lovers of the Italian fashion house's signature zigzag prints will be afforded the chance to sleep on Missoni-initialed sheets, eat off of Missoni plates and even swig a cocktail at the Missoni bar.
Talk about branding. Missoni is just the latest fashion company to jump into the hotel business.

Forbes says more & more designers will take this route to create exposure; brand awareness.

I know of the Taj getting designers to do the uniforms in all the leading hotels, Versace plates for restaurants & lava lamps for lighting, but it would be nice to know if any element, the hotel design, outlets, menu, uniforms, landscape, of your hotel is done by a designer of international repute.

Oh; if Dhoni has been invited to create the health club garbs, please deft let me know :)

TRENDS| You’re Giving Me That Room? No WayT

The NewYork Times says more hotel guests are asking for room changes. A large hotel does about 30 of them and the reasons include, better rooms, better view or simply a way to get an upgrade.

I've seen this happen in India only if the guest knew a better room is available in the hotel. Most regular guests know more about the hotel than the staff at the front office does (blame it on churn or the fact that the staff have never used the product they are selling!) and hence can tell when they have been shortchanged.

The readers working in new spanking hotels wouldn't know what I am talking about, but the ones who have seen a floor getting renovated at one time, can identify.

What do you think?

Are guests in your hotel changing rooms more often? Is this an excuse to wiggle out a room upgrade? Is this is new trend we should track & train staff on? write to me editor@hospemag.comClick here to read more>

TRENDS| Pod Hotels!

Now open YOtel (Yotel.com), a pod hotel in Gatwick Airport's South Terminal. Its 60 rooms, just 10-feet square, were inspired in design by British Airways' first-class service, with a soupcon of Japanese capsule-hotel thrown in.

The shrinking hotel room, especially in the form of the pod hotel, is a growing phenomenon as travellers demand lower-priced rooms with boutique style.

The first pod hotel was the Capsule Inn Osaka, designed by Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa and opened in 1977. With more than a passing resemblance to the drawers in a morgue, it was a weird but nifty addition to Japan's space-starved cityscapes.

The pod hotels are becoming as popular for their cool design solutions to small spaces as for their price tag. Qbic (www.qbichotels.com), a Dutch company, is behind a mini-chain of high-design pod hotels. The first Qbic opened in Amsterdam's financial district in the spring, and two more will open this winter in Antwerp and Maastricht. At Qbic you get a lot of cool design for your seven-square-foot room and 39 euro rate. Rooms, called Cubis, are a cube-shaped coloured plastic living space with an extra-long bed, Philippe Starck-designed bathroom and all the techie essentials: LCD TV and high-speed Internet in the cube's work and dining area. You can even change the colour of your Cubi to suit your mood: to yellow, red, purple, etc. Check-in is self-service; you get your room key from a dispensing machine. There is a communal space with work station, games console and a Grab & Go corner with vending machines offering pastries from local bakeries

Medical Tourism India

Patients around the world are beginning to realize the potential advancement of modern technologies Indian medicine.

The medical procedures in India are inexpensive as compared to that of US and other European nations.

The Indian Healthcare industry has realized the potential of this niche market and has begun to tailor their services for international visitors.

Medical tourists worldwide have a good cause to seek treatment in India to avail state-of-the-art medical facilities along with an opportunity of visiting the culturally rich nation.

The healthcare-tourism industry has expanded its services with the growing demand around the world.

A large number of Europeans are coming to India to get medical treatment, including advanced surgery. Many leading hospitals have expounded on this by branching their medical expertise to super-specialization. International patients usually get a package deal that includes flights, transfers, hotels, treatment and often a post-operative vacation. India aims to become the global health destination with internationally recognized healthcare professionals, holistic medicinal services and low cost of treatment. India has the potential to provide services to over one million health tourists every year. Medical tourism has given healthy boost to the Indian economy as well. To cater to this opportunity, the Tourism Ministry of India has joined hands with the healthcare sector to provide specialized care for the international patients. The medical tourism industry has the potential to become a major driver of Indian economy like Information Technology. The concept of priority treatment is becoming popular fast in a majority of Indian hospitals. Indian hospitals excel in cardiology and cardio thoracic surgery, cosmetic surgery, orthopedic surgery, ophthalmology, Bariatric/Obesity Surgery, transplants and urology to name a few. Medical tourists are increasingly resorting to medical treatments in India. Another fact to drive tourists is attraction of the reviving Indian traditional medicines such as yoga, ayurveda and meditation that they receive during their stay. Medical tourism in India was hardly large enough to be noticed about a decade ago. This year, approximately half a million foreign patients will travel to India for medical care, whereas in 2002, the number was only 150,000. Recent researches and trends guarantee that the market for medical tourism will continue to expand in the years ahead and India will emerge as one of the leading nations specializing in the industry.
