Today (I know its a Tuesday, I took the day off yesterday!), I want to talk about Accomplishments.

Most resume formats, require you to mention the details of positions held. This normally includes, designation, dates, company name, location and??

That's right, AND??

This is where you sell yourself.
Remember, the recruiter doesn't know you, let alone your achievements.

So here are some guidelines...
> Only 3 per job position listed- anymore and you risk sounding pompous!

>Only facts - no feelings. Facts can be verified. Revenue, Sales, Costs, training hours/man day, launch of new products/services

>Only those that demonstrate the skills that the job you applying for requires.

>Only those that are used to measure success for the designation you were in when you accomplished them.

Get your accomplishments in order.

In the age of sending resumes by email, the covering letter needs to do some things and avoid some things.

Things your covering letter/note should do:

>Quick snapshot

Who are you, what are you applying for and why are you interesting.

>Grab Attention

>Make it easier for the recruiter

As a principle, I would advice not to put reference on your resume.
It should always be 'Available on Request'

Today I am asking "Does your resume have Visual Appeal?"

That’s right. Visual Appeal?
Does it look goooooood!

Not only should your resume make you look good, it should also look good by itself.

Before I tell you the 'HOW', let me tell you the 'WHY'

Reasons why you should make sure your resume 'look' Good:

> Too many applicants
With the advent of electronic application systems, it just takes a simple click to apply.
Some sites (monster.com) let you apply to multiple jobs with one click.
With so many applications coming thru ( Recently I received over 200 applications for a Guest Services Assistant position) your resume should stand out.
If it is pleasing to the eyes, is different, the recruiter/company will be more inclined to spend time on it.

> Similar Formats
Everyone has Microsoft word, and so everyone has the standard resume formats.
I like the formats. I just think you can make the formats look attractive.

> A picture is worth a thousand words!

Today I want to talk about the meat or the main part of your resume.

If you have any work expereince, then you must Talk about your work experience.
I dont mean mention it on your resume, but really talk about it.

Most resumes have something like this:

' May 2006 - April 2007 Customer Services Agent XYZ Co'
or
' April 05 - May 07 Guest Service Associate ABC Hotel'

This tells the recruiter nothing!
