My Eclat Coach

The Magical 3 Step Telling Process!

Today, I want to tell you about a tool that is so magical, you can use it to get any message across to anybody, in any situation.

I will tell you about the 3-step Telling process.

One of the tools I picked up very early in my public speaking career, was The 3 Step Telling Process:

Step 1. Tell them what you’re going to tell them.
Step 2. Tell them.
Step 3. Tell them what you told them.

As I was sitting and preparing my presentation for a career seminar I was invited to conduct, I couldnt help but notice that this simple tool/formula could be great for the workplace.

For interviews, promotion pitches, salary negotiations, just plain boss-i-love-you speech!

Interviews:

As I have mentioned earlier Interviews invariable have the 'tell me about yourself' question.

The 3-Step Telling Process would work wonders in for this.

Step 1 - Identify some adjectives for yourself. Start off by telling them that ' I am adjective1, adjective2' etc.
for e.g. I consider myself innovative, charming and good with words.

Step 2 - Talk about yourself. See the post INTERVIEW SKILLS| Tell me something about yourself? What to do?? on what to say.

Step 3 - Tell them what you told them, so end the answer/reply by saying something like 'As I was telling you, because I am _____, _______ I am perfect for this position'

Promotion Pitches:

Step 1 - Boss, I would like to tell you why I think I am ready for more responsibility.

Step 2 - I have over the last XX time, demonstrated the ability and the willingness to take on tasks, learn and accomplish them with my team. If you remember.......

Step 3 - Thank you for your time. I am sure now you see why I would make a great team leader/manager etc

Do this for anything!

It is such a brilliant tool.

Like I was saying, the 3-step Telling process is prefect for any situation.
Remember, tell them what you are about to tell them, then tell them and finally tell them what you told them!

Cheers!

How Does One Feel About The Efforts of One's Co-Workers?
A Mixed bag of thoughts and feelings depending on the personal and professional characteristics of the person in question.

There are great and efficient workers with questionable personal attributes.
There are excellent people with poor set of work related skills.
There are pathetic workers with deplorable personas, AND
There are wonderful, top notch colleagues with exemplary attitudes.

No organisation is immune to this awesome foursome of categories.

Our response to them, our dymamics of equations at work and the matrix of relationships therein is a result of the chain of reactions set off by each of these conductors.

Isn't it???

From The Coach | 7 Ideas you can use to get back from a holiday!

7 Ideas you can use to get back from a holiday!

I have just come back from a week's holiday and have spent the whole day, missing the holiday.

Inertia has set in and I cannot seem to get started again.

So as things go with bloggers, I will blog about getting back.  Here according to me are 7 Ideas/Things you could do to get you to transition faster from the holiday mood to the work one!!

1. Have a crisis waiting for you!
This one should be simple. Instruct your not-so-fav person in the office and they will ensure one!!

2. Set up a deadline that expires within 24 hours of your getting back
simple & please, do not work on the project before leaving, that will negate the whole idea of doing this.

3. Call up everybody you know & tell them you are back
there should be atleast one person who will tell you something that either brings your spirits down, gets your worried or even worse makes you plan a counter strategy for the coming week!

4. hide the photos of the holiday
loose them for a while. I spent the entire day looking at them, and them showing them off and then looking again.

5. log in to your mailbox
WOW! a 1000 messages! Clearing spam never felt this good...

6. have all your messages/faxes/papers sent to your home
it would be nice just to spend time opening the envelops.

7. Check your stock portfolio!
a lehman here, a merrill there and you are so back! nothing gets you back as a depleted portfolio.

YOU have to take this seriously!
Every second that you spend busy or involved in something is a second you spend not thinking of the awesome holiday!

oh sh*t! There I go again, remembering the holiday. hmmm, guess there must be more Ideas.

What do you do? How do you come back? How do stop living in the dream world you inhabited & start earning your living in this one?

leave your comments.

From The Coach| Books I Like| Catch 22

The first of many.

I will try & mention books I like here.
I will also try & mention why I like them.

Here is the first.

Catch-22 - by Joseph Heller

Why I like it>
Completely wacky.
Every page has something that will make you laugh, with the knowledge that you wouldn't be laughing if it was happening to you.
The characters are myriad and each one of them evokes your sympathy.
Simply put, it is a great stress buster.

Do What You Know Makes You Happy!

Do What You Know Makes You Happy!

Most of us know what makes us happy.

We only need close our eyes, think of the times you have felt good, precious, wanted, & alive and there it is, the action that makes us happy.  It is there for you & me to know & do whenever we can, and yet.

I am as guilty of ignoring this simple truth as any of you.

Today, I make a promise to myself, I will do whatever it is that makes me happy!
and here is the other side to this promise, I know what makes me happy, hence I will make time to do that!

Recently, I am sapped by the end of the day.  With a new Institute opening, taking on more consulting assignments, expanding my team to 7 now, it really has been hectic.  I'm not complaining here. nor am I bragging, its just that I have been feeling so tired at the end of everyday, I have been ignoring things I love and things that make me happy.  No more jogs, no more reading before turning in, no more of TV!

Over a period of time that builds up.  You tend to get cranky, irritated and even impatient.  Thank god it hit me before it got worse.  I went for a jog today.  Felt so good! I then watched some TV, felt even better! I will read after finishing this post.  Just thinking about it makes me feel better.

That is when it struck me.  I didn't do anything new today. I just did what I KNOW makes me fell GOOD!

You know it too, and you OWE it to yourself to do those things that me you feel better.

Maybe a trip to the salon works for you, maybe shopping.  Shooting some basketballs works for some, and shooting some tequila for others!  Whatever it is, gardening, talking, cooking, driving, diving, dancing, painting, screaming, breaking things, make time for the activity that makes you happy!

Your happiness will flow into the other parts of your life too!

Happy Happiness!!

When should someone cease to be your mentor?

I wrote (mentioned rather) about having a mentor in life. I have been fortunate enough to have mentors along the way, people who directly/indirectly, knowingly/unknowingly helped me in whatever it was that I was doing at that moment in time.

Today, I called someone I started to look upto as a mentor and found that the advice wasn’t what one would call, sound. Rather, the advice was more in his interest than mine.

So I got thinking. When should someone cease to your mentor...

Why do People GOSSIP!

Just the other day X was telling Y that the whole place knows about W's gossips. ABC didnt even get a chance to respond to the rumour, whereas DEF doesnt care. It seems he likes the attention!

If you ever wondered the WHY? here is Aruna's Take on the subject.

I have to add my 2-bit doh! I think the grapevine can be used quite effectively as a management tool.
You need information, you might need to get a message across that should not be seen as official and then finally there is always the 'Whats this I'm hearing' routine!

Let me know what you think!

Cheers!

I am not me any more

I saw the movie The Motorcycle Diaries last night.

It is an awesome movie and I would recommend it to one & all. But this is not a movie review and hence I am not getting into the specifics of the movie.

There is however one thing from the movie that I do want to talk about. The travels and the experiences so amazingly depicted in the movie says 'I am not me any more. At least I'm not the same me I was'.

I cannot imagine a better way to capture the essence of personal experiences and interactions.

Each one of those fleeting moments changes and shapes your for good. The big ones start to seem like destiny and the path at the same time.

Each one of us, has an experience that we could blame or attribute for our current state of affairs, and yet without these experiences we wouldn’t be who we are.

Why am I talking about this? Click here to know>
