June a good month for London hotels

Follow Prabhjot Bedi on Twitter London’s hotels were able to increase both room rates and occupancy levels during June while hotels outside of the capital showed their strongest occupancy increases of the year, research has revealed.

Occupancy levels in London increased by just 0.9 points year on year to 87.2% for June but pushed room rates up by 11.7% to £118.20, according to the latest statistics from TRI Hospitality Consulting.

Revenue per available room (revpar) remained strong with a 12.8% increase to £103.12.

Occupancy rates for the provinces rose year-on-year by 1.8 points to 75.8%, with room rates by 4% to £73.26. Provincial revpar rose by 6.4% to £55.53.

> Why should you care what's happening there?

Here are the reasons:

1. UK/London will be the biggest market for hospitality professionals come 2010. The Olympics are on!
2. India is considered a relatively expensive market. If the rates go up across the world, we don't look that bad...we may even see more hikes in prices!
