The storied Ritz-Carlton Boston takes its final bow at noon today, when the grande dame of hotels officially becomes the Taj Boston.
Ritz employees removed 80 years of history from the hotel this week, while a global team from new owner Indian Hotels Co. worked from a makeshift command center in a conference room.
“We want to have a very smooth handoff, so guests at the hotel and customers on the other end of the phone experience a seamless transition,” said David Gibbons, Taj Boston’s general manager.
Mumbai, India-based Indian Hotels Co., owner of Taj Hotels, Resorts and Palaces, bought the Ritz from Millennium Partners in a $170 million deal that closes today.
Taj Boston will raise its flags at noon, and everything from towels to logos on the hotel’s TVs and phones also will change. “At noon, we want to make sure that people know instantly that we’re Taj,” Gibbons said.
