Sell water above MRP, HC tells hotels

The Delhi High Court held Monday that a hotel or restaurant could charge more than the maximum retail price (MRP) for a bottle of mineral water from a consumer.

Justice Vikramajit Sen said: "Charging prices for mineral water in excess of the MRP printed on the packaging during the service of customers in a hotel and restaurant does not violate any of the provisions of the Standards of Weights and Measures (SWM) Act, 1976."

    this is apsolutely correct because generally hotel sells every thing in higher prices, coz they need to inquer lots of cost in maintaining and serviving the beverages, and there is always an opton fo rregular filter water, which these days is mostly purified with RO plants in all the hotels

    The overheads at a hotel are way more than that at a retail shop, so I completely agree!
